I've had ridiculous amounts of lag lately, too. Ragefests galore as my character wouldn't use her skills in GvG, bouncing off walls and teleporting everywhere...

What COULD be the problem is that all the DL'd files over the year have gotten fragmented and such, causing all this stress on your computer and things. Here's a link with a better explanation and how to fix it.

http://forum.sof-guild.com/showthread.php?t=5100

<3 those Servants.

Anyway, hope this solves your problem. If it doesn't, your ISP is borked or there's something that ANet's not telling us. Probably the latter, though.

Mmm

So instead of complaining about it like I see lots of people do how about you find the gw tools set to trace the connection. Submit the report. You are not the only people that expierence lag. Latency can only be resolved to a certain extent at a content provider level. All the hops in your route must work correctly, quickly, and with virtually no data loss for lag to go away.

Check the route
Contact YOUR provider
Contact Area Net

That are your options. That is all there is to it, making threats to leave the game help no one, if your problems effects a subnet, by helping yourself you are helping others. You however cannot expect other providers to just hop to when you say jump.

Before I hear anything either about how you can play other games without lag like fps. Lets take a look at how things work, Guildwars automatically select the closest node regardless of packet stats or latency. In other games you load a MSL, and Pick the most optimized server to play on, that makes all the difference in the world.

I would believe that it was Anet having issues, if it weren't for one thing.

I have two houses, and as such, two computers. They both are on LAN connections through the same ISP. Yet, one has lag, the other does not.

The one that works is a rather new HP computer with an AMD 64 bit processor and 2 Gigs of RAM, running off a built in video card. This would make sense that the computer works fine.

The one that has lag is a 3 year of Dell computer with a Pentium 4 processor and 1 Gig of RAM, running on a NVidia GeForce 4000 card. The system should be able to handle Guild Wars (it can play BF2).

Now, I have some suggestions about why there might be lag.
1. Your computer is old. Sorry, but you may need to update your computer if it's a Pentium 3 or lower, or the video card may just be too outdated.
2. Your Drivers are outdated. You need to make sure your computer is running at it's best.
3. Your modem/router is old. This is a rather simple thing. Many people overlok the fact their modem may just be old.
4. Your computer needs a virus scan and a Defrag. You need to make sure nothing unnessicary is using up your resources.

It's doubtful that so many people have overlooked such simple factors, but then again, many people keep holding on too their old stuff.

there's not really much point in contacting support about it sadly. Since they lie, and tell you it's you. When it bloody well isn't .

I know I've been suffering with way too many error 7's and some horrible lag issues ever since the GWFC went on observer mode. (not that this has anything to do with it, this is just when it started happening ^^) - and it's been happening to half of my guild... and half of the players in the game...

I had more err7s in this week than in the whole year before. It's nearly as bad as the summer of lag on euro-servers in july 2005...and that was a problem closer to Anet's side.
Same observation here, have been seening more DCs espesically during zone loading where players would DC either when they start the mission/end the mission zoning to new areas or even when they are mapping new towns or in the middle of the mission......

I have a high speed cable internet connection without any downloading and from what i seen this lag and amount of DCs is really getting out of hand.

This is not a problem on my end. Been playing the game for fourteen months, rarely got an err 7. Now it happens every night. I'm not dumb and I know enough about computers to know what to fix on my end.

I won't freak out and yell I want to quit the game, but as a consumer of the product I feel strongly that this issue should be properly addressed. It is hindering the enjoyment of the product for me and has the potential to detract me from buying future expansions if it continues unchecked.

So, please Anet fix this problem. For the consumer. All of us.

Let's see.

I have err7'd 0 times in the last 8 months (Jan1-Aug31)

The only time I have ever err7'd was during the Winterday event in a overloaded district waiting for Antlers/Santa Hats.

I play on the American server with a cable connection. I would guess the Aerican server is located near if not inside their Bellevue, WA headquarters. Being the case I can see why I don't err7, since I live less than 100 miles north in Bellingham.

So it can't be their server. It is a router or something else causing your problems.

Contact support and work it out, quit whining on the forums.

I've been having same problems - my connection never cuts out or anything, GW will either suddenly give me horrible lag, or just drop my connection with Error 007.

Tonight it's really bad. Was playing AB, with absolutely no lag whatsoever. Suddenly, everything stops and I'm dumped to the character screen with an error 7.

I get back on, no lag, running fine... then out of nowhere lag spikes to literally 60+ seconds... before dumping my connection. I can't even play it tonight it's so bad.

I have never error 7'ed until this last week. I've never had these kind of lag issues until this last week either.

Oh, and to head-off what's already been said:

1) My all-in-one Modem/Router indicates when a connection problem arises, none have.

2) I've been playing GW on this computer since I got GW back in December, these problems haven't shown up until this last week.

3) I tested my connection with a download and upload running (not using all bandwidth) and went and ran GW. It ran without any lag until I was randomly error 7'd - my downloads and uploads showed no indication of a connection disruption.

4) Three of my friends have the same ISP, one of them has these problems, the other two do not - it's not the ISP either.

And finally, 5) All signs point to an Anet problem that they need to fix.

Please, to those trolling and doing the insults... in case you haven't clearly noticed there are a number of people experiencing this problem. You haven't? Good, great! Rejoice. For those people who are experiencing the problem I can tell you that I have had them as well. I play other MMO's besides Guild Wars, surf the net, IM's, IRC, Skype, VNC, FTP (no not all at the same time... usually :P) and am not experiencing this problem of being disconnected from anything. So somehow "magically" just when I play Guild Wars this is affecting me. There is quite clearly a bigger issue going on here that SO MANY people are experiencing Err7's.

Oh, and Curse You I have multiple computers so to answer the questions:

- I've experienced Err7's on old and new.
- My drivers are not outdated.
- My router is not old. I have played from a direct connection and a wireless connection (as well as from 1 or 2 other people's homes).
- I regularly virus scan and defrag. I just tried the suggestion that Heist gave earlier in the thread to defrag that gw.dat file (since clearly a lot of defrag's will not even attempt to defrag the gw.dat file) and have not tested since then. If I can play for a few days and receive no Err7's then this just might have been it so I'll give an update to see if that may have helped.

Also, I changed the title of this thread since too many people seemed to be focused on the title and not the issue. There are a lot of good suggestions in this thread and I don't want people who are trying to resolve them to overlook this as another rant thread.

I have another simalar example, a bit more strange: me and my girlfriend are connected to a router, so different pc, same connection, she always lags or get disconnected, me almost never. I've checked her pc, cleaned possible virus, spyware, tracking cookies and whatelse but nothing seems to solve the issue. Maybe a pc or ethernet card problem, surely not A-Net.

Problem seems to be the routing from Limelight Networks.

Sometimes when lagging out you get an IP in the error msg. I did a traceroute and got the following:

$ tracert 216.107.240.197

routing to 216-107-240-197.plaync.com [216.107.240.197]

1 8 ms 9 ms 8 ms (censored my local german provider)
2 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms
3 18 ms 17 ms 17 ms
4 18 ms 17 ms 17 ms (major european internet hub)
5 33 ms 39 ms 33 ms ve1317.ge1-9.fr1.ams.llnw.net [80.81.192.221]
6 29 ms 27 ms 28 ms tge1-16-1.ar1.ams.llnw.net [69.28.172.86]
7 248 ms 97 ms 97 ms so1-5-1.ar1.lga.llnw.net [69.28.172.161]
8 102 ms 128 ms 96 ms tge1-4.fr3.lga.llnw.net [69.28.172.2]
9 129 ms 129 ms 128 ms tge2-1.fr3.ord.llnw.net [69.28.171.193]
10 169 ms 168 ms 169 ms tge1-2.fr3.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.66]
11 177 ms 178 ms 194 ms tge2-3.fr3.lax.llnw.net [69.28.171.117]
12 timeouts from here on

My err7 disconnects coincide with the disconnects of guildmembers in the US doing other stuff in GW and random people in my pugs.

The only lag that I have experienced (luckily) is an annoying skill lag, where I click on the skill I want to use and I have fun watching it just "ripple" as I wait for it to acually begin casting. I can run around and everything fine, its just those darn skills that lag sometimes for me.

I forgot to point out something before.

I WAS having lag in Guild Wars on my older computer, but I have somehow managed to reduce it down to almost nothing. The only things I have done are:

1. Defraged
2. Re-installed Video and Sound Drivers, and updated Direct X
3. Moved a bunch of games to my secondary hard drive, to giving me 16 GB of free space
4. Put in a new modem
5. Cleaned my PC (the physical unit)

Somehow, doing those things has helped to reduce my lag in game. The most likely thing that did something was making 16 GB of free space and putting in a new modem.
